Interviews with people involved in the Arson attack on Kyoto Animationin which thirty – six people died in July 2019, it is suggested that a committee has been formed to study the creation of memorials for the victims. The families of the deceased and the part of Kyoto Animation will take part in the committee, which will discuss the specific place and form of the installation.
According to officials, Some families of the deceased were cautious about the construction of the monument, but in an exchange of views between the families and Kyoto Animation in December last year, the decision was made to build the monument and create an organizing committee.. The committee consists of a total of seventeen members from the affected families and the company.
The concrete location and form of the monument and the content of the inscription are discussed once a month. Lawyers representing Kyoto Animation said in interviews that no general agreement has yet been reached between the parties. On the other hand, the company’s first studio, which was the target of the arson attack, has already been demolished and the ground cleared.
In 2019, the area’s neighborhood association urged Kyoto Animation not to build a landmark or turn the site into a memorial park, as an unknown number of people visited the area after the incident. On the other hand, the person responsible for the incident, Aoba Shinjihas not been convicted despite being formally charged since December 2020.
